Crazy life!

By Cody, December 16, 2009 4:10 pm

Hello one and all who follow this blog (all two of you)!

Anyways, it’s been a crazy month (almost) since my last blog post.  So, here’s my apology for taking so long!

I’m SORRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyways, now that that’s taken care of, I get to tell you that it’ll likely be a while before my next blog post too!  We’ll be going out of town for Christmas, with limited internet access.

But, to keep your interest, here’s a list of possible upcoming blog posts!

  • How to install an aftermarket stereo in a 2005 Honda Civic
  • How to install fog lights on a 2005 Honda Civic
  • How to enjoy long trips out of town
  • How to keep your sanity when you drive from Boise to Lewiston and back to Boise in the same day and pray that you won’t miss the concert that you’ve been planning on going to for a month (coming soon!)

If you don’t hear from me before Christmas time, I hope you all have a merry and blessed Christmas, Chanukah, Kwanza, or whatever else you celebrate.  Or if you don’t celebrate a holiday, enjoy the cold, the snow, and the time off.  Whatever you do, enjoy it!

Too soon for Christmas music? Methinks NOT!

By Cody, November 20, 2009 2:03 am

The past few Christmases just haven’t felt right for me… I’m not quite sure what the problem has been, but I just didn’t really feel the christmas spirit.  So, I decided to do an experiment this year.  My experiment – Start listening to Christmas music earlier, and see if that helps get rid of my bah humbuggery.  So far, it seems to have helped!

Here are some of my suggestions for a joyous collection of Christmas music.

The Upcoming Server and Network Service

By Cody, November 9, 2009 1:25 am

I recently sent out an e-mail to all members of Bandrox Web, telling them of an upcoming outage of the Bandrox Server.  Why?  Well, that’s what this post will detail!

Discouragement much…

By Cody, November 8, 2009 5:45 pm

Well, as many of you know, I’ve been trying to prepare for my mission.  Easier said than done at this point.  I had a meeting with my bishop today, and still don’t have a date for going back.  It’s quite discouraging :(

I just wanna LEAVE!!!! :’(

</complaining>

Ok, now that that’s out of the way, on to happier things!  I’ve updated (most of) the pages on the blog!  The “About BRB" page (not including the Bandrox Server page) has been created, and will basically tell you what this blog is supposed to be about.  The “Bandroxmobile” page (under the About Cody page, which still hasn’t been updated) will tell you pretty much anything you ever wanted to know about the Bandrox Civic.  And the “Photography” page has been updated with a link to the gallery (which doesn’t have anything in it yet).

I’ve set up the Gallery 3 software.  However, since it’s still technically in Beta, no one has bothered to make an integration for it.  In other words, it’s essentially entirely separate from the Blog.  Bleh.

That’s it for now!  Until next time, stay crunchy :)

P.S., here’s a picture of Blake making a giant flameball out of wax and water.  Yes, wax, water, and some heat (a little butane burner).

The Cody Blog!

By Cody, November 3, 2009 10:56 pm

Welcome to Cody’s Blog!  I don’t have much to say right now, but I figured one post is better than none, right?  Right :)

Anyways, here’s a little info for ya.  This blog (along with the Chowder Blog, the Elder Conder blog, and Bandrox Web) is hosted on the Bandrox Server.  What is the Bandrox Server, you ask?  Why, what a wonderful question!  The Bandrox Server has been my little project for over a year now.  It lives in the closet under the stairs at my parents’ house.  It’s shiny black.  It’s nice :)   Would you like a picture?  Ok, I’ll oblige…

Of course, this is the front.  It’s covered in smudgy finger prints cuz I’d just finished building it ;)   As you can tell, it’s very shiny!

These are the guts.  Super sweet case with excellent air flow, ASUS motherboard, 3.0 GHz AMD Dual Core Processor, 4 GB ram, 500 GB hard drive, 750 watt power supply.  Oh, and a Lightscribe DVD burner (I didn’t really care for the Lightscribe part, but it was the best I could do).  To be perfectly honest, I almost considered scrapping the server and making this into my desktop PC… almost…

I call this server Bandrox Server v2.1.  Why?

Bandrox Server v1.0-1.1

Well, the first Bandrox Server (BRS v1.0) was my old desktop computer.  I fixed it up, and installed Fedora Linux on it.  What… a… pain!!  However, after learning Linux and finally getting it to work the way I wanted, I didn’t mess with it for a while.  It worked quite well until Fedora started having hic ups…  See, Fedora is bent on being on the cutting edge… which means bugs.  I finally got fed up, and created BRS v1.1.  This involved installing Ubuntu Linux instead of Fedora.  Again, WHAT A PAIN!!!  I’m a Linux-tard, and I couldn’t get my site to work very well.  Things were broken (the Bandrox Gallery, for one), and it was just turning into a mess.  Besides, things were starting to die on the server… fans, power supply, hard drive.  The only things to REALLY die were the fans, but the hard drive was about to crash.  That meant it was time for……

Bandrox Server v2.0-2.1

I got fed up with things dying on me.  So, I invested a little money (about $425) and built a BRAND NEW SERVER!!  BRS v2.0 was born, and was initiated with Ubuntu Linux 9.04.  However, that only solved the hardware portion of things.  As far as Linux went, I was still retarded.  The site was still broken, and I was still frustrated.  After some digging, I discovered that college students (hey, whadaya know! I am one!) are eligible to get some free software from Microsoft through their Dreamspark program!  One of those free pieces of software just happens to be Microsoft Server 2008 r2 standard.  Thus, BRS v2.1 was born.  I was finally back on familiar territory, and could FINALLY figure out how to fix my site…… well, sorta.  It turns out the easiest way to rebuild Bandrox Web was to recreate it from scratch.  Which I did.  And thus, Bandrox Web v2.0 was born :)

Anyways, that’s about all I’ve got to say for now… I’ll try to post some interesting stuff on here from time to time.  For now, adios!
